Old Town & City Hall - WS02

The imposing City Hall with the three crowns atop, beautifully situated by the shores of the Lake Maelaren. Experience the grandeur and spaciousness of the impressive Blue Hall and Golden Chamber and enjoy the beautiful view from the Garden. The Old Town is Stockholm's oldest and coziest quarter. Witness the historic elegant exterior of the dominating Royal Palace and enjoy a stroll along the cobblestone streets. At Stortorget, the Great Square stands the Old Stock Exchange, now home of the Swedish Academy and the Nobel Museum.

Passing through the southern residential district of Soedermalm, drive west along Soeder Maelarstrand and across the Western Bridge spanning Riddarfjarden and offering extensive views of the city skyline.

In the distance you will see the three crowns atop the imposing City Hall, beautifully situated by the shores of the Lake Maelaren. Inaugurated in 1923 after 12 years of work by the combined elite of Swedish construction workers, sculptors, artists and craftsmen. Renowned for its architecture, murals, mosaics and for being the site for the annual Nobel Prize banquet. Experience the grandeur and spaciousness of the impressive Blue Hall and Golden Chamber and enjoy the beautiful view from the Garden.

Pass through the city centre to finally reach Stockholm's oldest and coziest quarter, the Old Town. Witness the historic elegant exterior of the dominating Royal Palace and enjoy a stroll along the narrow, twisting alleys and cobblestone streets with buildings dating from the 16th to the 19th centuries with baroque doorways and coat of arms. At Stortorget, the Great Square stands the Old Stock Exchange, now home of the Swedish Academy and the Nobel Museum. Experience the medieval intimacy of what is today a living historical monument of international renown.

Before returning to the pier admire the splendid panorama of Stockholm from Fjaellgatan, the most popular view point in the city.

Note: The tour of Old Town is on foot over cobblestone streets with approximately 1 mile of walking. The City Hall involves approximately 300 yards of walking with 50 to 60 steps. The order of the tour may vary but all mentioned sights would be covered.
