You meet your guide at the pier in Flam and after a short walk you reach the railway station and board the train, which takes you to Vatnahalsen. At vatnahalsen coffee and waffles is served, before you start walking. Walking down this beautiful, wild valley on gravel paths/roads, you will cross the Flam River several times on wooden bridges and through a small tunnel en route to Berekvam. There, you will rejoin the train for the return trip to Flam and the ship.
Experience all the fascinating highlights of the Flam Railroad as well as a 3-hour downhill trek from Vatnahalsen. The Flam Railway is one of the world's most attractive and spectacular railway lines, nowhere else do adhesion railcars on normal tracks have a steeper journey than on the Flam Railway. The train will take you on a 12 mile long journey from the Aurlandsfjord up in the mountains to Vatnahalsen, a difference in altitude of almost 2,850 feet, from where you will trek downhill.

The line is built in four levels, with a twisting tunnel to enable the train to climb up the 1,000 feet high Myrdalsberg. You will pass through approximately 20 tunnels, 18 of which are excavated by hand, before reaching your destination Vatnahalsen. On the journey you will see the Rjoande Waterfall, with its sheer 400-foot drop, and the impressive peak of Vibmesnosi, rising more than 4,000 feet above sea level. Winding its way along the tracks is the scenic Flam River, known as one of the best salmon-fishing rivers in the region. A brief photo stop will be made at the mighty Kjos Waterfall, before arriving at your destination Vatnahalsen, where you will disembark the train. Note: There are approximately 6-7 miles (3 hours) of extensive downhill walking over even, gravel and rocky surfaces; therefore, guests should be in good physical condition. Low heeled, comfortable walking or hiking shoes and comfortable, loose clothing are recommended. Participants should bee aware that there are certain inherent risks involved in any hiking excursion. A parent or guardian must accompany children under the age of 16 years. This tour will operate in all weather conditions so participants should take appropriate weather gear with them, carry a backpack for belongings, and take bottled water with them to stay hydrated during the hike. A light snack consisting of waffles at Vatnahalsen will be included. It is important to note that even though the tour will run in all weather conditions, if there is too much snow on the ground the tour contents may be altered or cancelled.
