After a safety briefing, head into the Finnish Capital and ride along paths by city parks, waterfronts and residential and commercial areas, and experience the city from a unique perspective. View Helsinki's main city beach, Hietaranta, and Sibelius Park to see the monument to Finland's world famous composer. Pass through the residential district of Töölö to the shores of Töölö Bay. Stop for photos at the eastern Harbour and capture the beauty of Katajanokka Island. Your guide will provide a safety briefing before you head into the Finnish Capital, a wonderful city to explore by bike because of the relatively flat terrain. Ride along paths by city parks, waterfronts and residential and commercial areas, and experience the city from a unique perspective.
View Helsinki's main city beach, Hietaranta, and continue along the waterfront to Sibelius Park to see the monument to Finland's world famous composer. Pass through the residential district of Toolo to the shores of Toolo Bay. Here enjoy a great view of the city as well as the new Opera House and decorative wooden villas dating from the 19th century. You will also see in the distance Finlandia Hall, the National Museum and the Parliament as you continue to the eastern side of the city. Stop for photos at the eastern Harbour and capture the beauty of Katajanokka Island, summer home to the Finnish Icebreaker fleet and location of the Orthodox Uspenski Cathedral, with its 13 golden onion domes. At Market Square, walk with your bike and safely enjoy the colorful sights and sounds of one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city. As you head away from the Old City Harbour, take a moment to admire the skyline which prominently features the Lutheran Cathedral, the City Hall and the Presidential Palace.
Proceed to the exclusive waterfront homes of Diplomats and the popular Kaivopuisto Park with scenic views across to the impressive Suomenlinna Island Fortress. A final stop will be made to view the traditional spring time custom of carpet washing. Pass the well-known local small boat marina of Merisatama, bringing you back to your ship, and completing your introduction to this beautiful Baltic capital.
Note: Minimum required in order for the tour to operate. Guests must be in good health and be comfortable riding a bicycle with foot brakes for this moderately easy tour that includes approximately 10 miles (2.5 hours of cycling) over mostly flat paved and gravel cycle paths. Some mild undulations and one gentle hill will be encountered. All bikes used are unisex style city bikes. Helmets are provided and must be worn. Participants should be aware that there are certain inherent risks involved in any biking excursion. Participants must be at least 60 inches (152 cms) in height. A parent must accompany children under the age of 16. Please wear the appropriate walking or sports shoes. This tour will operate in all weather conditions so participants should take appropriate weather gear with them, carry a backpack for belongings and take extra bottled water with them to stay hydrated during the ride.
