Your tour begins with a 50-minute drive to the traditional Village of Vamos. The history of the village goes back many centuries, According to historical sources, its first inhabitants were Arab pirates around the 8th century. During that time, Greece was under Turkish domination and Vamos was the headquarters of the Turkish army. People of Vamos proved to be very patriotic, fighting to free themselves from the Turkish domination and the winning battle of 1896 set Vamos and its people free. Vamos met a great development when it became the capital of Sfakia Prefecture. Today, you’ll see the distinction between luxurious "conakia" and non-luxurious houses "kamarospita" that highlights the economical level of the society.

Your tour continues to the Karidi Monastery with the Agios Georgios Church, just outside the Village of Vamos. Formerly, Karidi was a Venetian Village that was destroyed by Turks.  Later a monk of Ag. Triada Monastery bought the land and Karidi became a subsidiary of Ag. Triada. Today, you’ll visit the ruin of the old mill, with its 12 arches built in 1862, the ruins of the monastery and the small church of Ag. Georgios. You will contineue to the Braoudakis Winery to sample local wine. The Braoudakis family operation aims at offering a warm Cretan hospitality to all visitors making them accustomed to the Cretan countryside, its history and surrounding nature. Before returning to the port, you'll have free time (approximately 45 minutes) in Chania Town.

Note:  Guests must be able to walk approximately 0.5 mile over various surfaces and cobblestone streets with a few steps.  Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.  To enter the monastery, ladies must cover their shoulders; no shorts are allowed and attire should be conservative.  If guests should miss the return bus, transportation back to the vessel is their own responsibility and at their own expense. The drive to Vamos Village is approximately 50 minutes and the return drive to Souda Port is approximately 30 minutes, dependent upon traffic conditions.  The shopping hours and closure dates should be reviewed in the introduction section of Chania, Greece.
