Leeds Castle - DV21
Begin by taking route to Leeds Castle. Lovingly restored, it is home to collection of medieval furnishings, paintings, tapestries & treasures. Crowning glory is setting. Situated on 2 small islands, it is surrounded by green parkland. You'll encounter many views. You'll have time to visit gift shop (approx 45 mins) & walk thru grounds of castle before return to Dover. Note: must walk approx 0.33 mile over flat pavement at castle with 30 - 40 steps. Tour order may vary. Have approx 45 mins for shopping in Leeds Castle gift shop. Photography not permitted inside Leeds Castle. Drive to/from Dover is approx 45 mins each way.
Begin by taking a direct route to Leeds Castle, one of the most romantic and most ancient castles in the Kingdom. In the 9th century, this was the site of a manor of the Saxon royal family. Listed in the Domesday Book, this castle has been a Norman stronghold, a royal residence to six of England's medieval Queens, a playground and palace to Henry VIII and a private home. Today, lovingly restored, it is home to a magnificent collection of medieval furnishings, paintings, tapestries and treasures. This is where visitors of the present meet with lives of the past. You sense it, walking the grounds, where even the leaves breathe history. The crowning glory of this most English of castles is its setting. Situated on two small islands in the midst of an encircling lake, it is surrounded by a green arc of parkland, thick with trees and hills that tumble gently down to the water's edge. You will encounter many glorious views. Kings, Queens and seasons may change, but Leeds Castle's enchanting and very English beauty is lasting. You will have some time to visit the gift ship (approximately 45 minutes) and walk through the grounds of the castle before your return to Dover.
Note: Guest must be able to walk approximately 0.33 mile over flat pavement at the castle with 30 to 40 steps. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Tour order may vary between groups but always covering the mentioned sites. Time permitting; guests will have approximately 45 minutes for shopping and browsing in Leeds Castle gift shop. Photography is permitted inside Leeds Castle, however not in the Chapel. The drive to/from Dover is approximately 45 minutes, dependent upon traffic conditions.
