Overview:
Enjoy a panoramic tour of Tromso, the capital of northern Norway, and visit the Arctic Cathedral, a city landmark famous for its architectural design.

Highlights:
-Sights seen from the coach: Lake Prestvatn, Meteorological Institute, Tromso Bridge
-Arctic Cathedral: Enjoy an inside visit and explore the ultra-modern architecture which symbolizes the immense strength of the pack ice in the Arctic Ocean.

Full Description:
Tromso is the capital of northern Norway and the largest township within the Polar Circle. Tromso has been the starting point for arctic expeditions for many years. During World War II, the German battleship Tirpitz was sunk just outside the town, but Tromso escaped damage and is one of the few towns in northern Norway that has been able to preserve its charming buildings.

You will go on a tour around the island, passing Lake Prestvatn where the Meteorological Institute is situated. Back in the city center, you will proceed via the Tromso Bridge to the Arctic Cathedral.

The ultra-modern architecture symbolizes the immense strength of the pack ice in the Arctic Ocean. The church was consecrated November 19th, 1965. The architect, Jan Inge Hovig, succeeded his task in constructing a masterpiece. The church is a landmark for the city and can be admired from ships passing through the channel of Tromso as well as from the air. The famous architectural shape is largely due to 11 aluminum-coated concrete walls on each side of the building. The main entrance to the west is surrounded by a large glass facade and a cross reaching to the top of the building. The famous glass mosaic covering the eastern wall was finished in 1972. The artist, Victor Sparre, created one of his most outstanding pieces of art with his glass mosaic. At the end of your tour, you will rejoin the coach to cross the Tromso Bridge and return to the pier.
