Honningsvåg is the capital of Norway’s stunning North Cape and home to 3,000 of the 4,000 people living on the island of Magerøy. The town was under German occupation during World War II, and was partly destroyed by fire during their retreat. As a result, many of the houses are built in an identical style – part of a post-war reconstruction project.

The tour starts with a drive through the town of Honningsvåg.  After leaving Honningsvåg you will travel along the Skipsfjord – dotted with week end cottages, hotels and camping sites.  You will drive past Storbukt to the village of Kamøyvær – 12 km from Honningsvåg.  Kamøyvær is the smallest of the fishing villages at the Magerøya Island with only about 100 inhabitants.  It still has a fish factory, a small fishing fleet, a little lighthouse and a picturesque harbor.  One of Europe’s smallest schools is situated in Kamøyvær – with only 6 pupils and one teacher.  A  gallery "East of the Sun" is also situated here - the gallery has an exhibition of paintings with motives from the island and information about the midnight sun and the polar nights. There will be a short stop for photos before the tour continues.

We return to the main road and continue further north to Skarsvågkrysset where we leave the main road and drive to Skarsvåg.  We stop at a beautiful vantage point where you may have a glimpse of the Horn – a cliff formation formerly used as a place of heathen worship.    In Skarsvåg we will stop to visit the North Cape Christmas and Winter House.  In a homelike atmosphere, the house is decorated for Christmas in the Norwegian tradition.

Everything is for sale and you may be browse through Christmas decorations, glass, pottery, postcards, pictures, knitwear etc.

Returning to Honningsvåg you may be able to spot reindeer grazing not far from the road.  The reindeer herds are domestic and belong to the Sami people.  The reindeer herds and brought to the island every spring to feed there during the summer months.

Note: Guests must be able to walk approximately .2 miles over even surfaces and cobblestones. Good comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Tour order may vary, but all sights will be covered.
