Step back in time as you follow the director of Waterford’s Medieval Museum through fascinating historical exhibits before minting your own replica Viking coin and then freely exploring the town of Waterford City. Your four-hour exploration begins with a scenic coach drive through Irish countryside to Waterford, the country’s oldest city. Here you’ll enter the Medieval Museum for an in-depth tour led by the knowledgeable museum director, viewing preserved medieval structures including the town’s original 13th-century wall. See religious relics, pilgrim badges, cloth-of-gold vestments and King Edward IV’s sword while walking through Chorister’s Hall. In the Mayor’s Wine Vault you’ll discover Ireland’s oldest surviving Waterford chalice and learn about this former wine-producing capital of Ireland. For an extra-special experience, join a local coin maker in pressing your own Viking coin using a replica of the original dies used to case coinage years ago when the Royal Mint was located in nearby Reginald’s Tower. An hour’s free time in the city gives you time to stroll, dine or shop for Waterford’s famous crystal before driving back to your ship.
Highlights: • Medieval Museum: Trace Waterford’s history through an impressive collection of artifacts in Chorister’s Hall and the Mayor’s Wine Vault. • Viking coins: Harken back to the days of Waterford’s Royal Mint as you cast your very own keepsake coinage. • Waterford: Enjoy free time to explore Ireland’s oldest city, where you’ll find notable landmarks, authentic restaurants and crystal galleries aplenty.
