This double-header excursion gives you the chance to view majestic Mendenhall Glacier, one of Alaska’s premier natural attractions, before setting sail on an evening catamaran cruise that includes wildlife sightings and authentic Alaskan cuisine. A 30-minute narrated coach drive leads you to Mendenhall Glacier, a 13-mile-long river of ice situated on the Juneau Icefield in Tongass National Forest. At the Visitor Center you’ll learn about Alaska’s magnificent glaciers through interactive exhibits and Forest Service interpreters. Then step outside along the shores of Mendenhall Lake for an easily accessible panorama of the glacier and a gushing waterfall. Then you will re-board your motor coach for a short, scenic ride to the whale watching facility. You’ll then board a waterjet-powered catamaran in nearby Auke Bay and set sail on an evening whale watching cruise. Your vessel is specially designed for wildlife viewing, so keep your eyes peeled for humpback whales, orcas, sea lions, porpoise, harbor seals and bald eagles — you’ll receive a $100 cash refund if you don’t see a whale, but don't count on it - whales have been spotted on every trip for the last 10 years. You’ll also be treated to a selection of regionally-inspired appetizers such as baron of beef, reindeer sausage, smoked salmon, pastries and beverages (wine, beer and soda available for purchase) while onboard. Admire Alaska’s peaceful, pure wilderness under the evening glow of the Midnight Sun before returning to your ship.
