Enjoy a four-hour trip to the Lithuanian town of Kretinga where you'll tour a local monastery with a Franciscan monk and browse the Kretinga Museum's exhibits before freely shopping in Old Town Klaipeda. Delight in a coach drive to Kretinga, one of the oldest cities in the country. Here you'll meet a Franciscan brother or sister in the Kretinga monastery and take a narrated tour of a church dating back to 1602. See the wonderfully aged altar and climb down into the underground crypts, all while learning how the monastery's monks contribute to the local town's harmonious lifestyle. You'll then enter the nearby Kretinga Museum, which is housed in the former palace of Count Tiskevicius. Inside discover a collection of period furniture, folk art, wood carvings, paintings and ethnographic exhibits relating to the Samogitian people. Outside take a gander around leafy gardens with bubbling koi ponds. Back in Klaipeda's Old Town you'll enjoy about 40 minutes' free time to shop for authentic amber jewelry in the historic central market. At this point you can head back to the pier with your guide, or stay awhile longer before making the short walk back along the Dane River.
