Learn about the city's blend of French, African and American roots while glimpsing the mighty Mississippi River. See wrought-iron balconies lining French Quarter Streets, the bright-white cathedral centerpiece of Jackson Square, and the French Market, the country's oldest Native American trading post. Walk around St. Louis Cemetery No. 3, where above-ground gravesites tell the story of New Orleans' famous residents dating back to 1854. Centuries-old houses where Creole merchants once lived border Esplanade Avenue, which leads you to City Park, one of the nation's oldest urban green spaces. Here you'll see the world's largest stand of mature live oaks, including one that's 800 years old.
