Delve deep into Puerto Rico’s native heritage as you uncover artifacts and archaeological excavations at the Tibes Indigenous Ceremonial Center, plus stop by Plaza Las Delicias in the nearby bustling city of Ponce. A short motor coach drive to Tibes Indigenous Ceremonial Center lets you explore one of the most important archaeological discoveries and oldest astronomical observatory in the Antilles. Here you’ll see how Igheri and Taino Indian tribes lived and played back in 25 A.D., long before the arrival of Christopher Columbus. Walk around and view thatched huts, ceramic pottery, seven stone ball courts and a quadrangular plaza adorned with carved petroglyphs. You’ll also enter a large cemetery where some 180 human skeletons rest in peace. On the return bus trip you’ll make a stop in Ponce, Puerto Rico’s second-largest city, in the middle of Plaza Las Delicias, the town’s main square. Here you’ll spend about an hour strolling along its mosaic-tiled sidewalks to view a collection of monuments: the square is known for its bronze and marble Lions Fountain; admire stained glass windows at the Cathedral of Guadalupe; and snap photos of the red and black exterior of the historic Parque de Bombas firehouse.

• Tibes: As one of the oldest Antillean Indian ceremonial and sport complexes, this excavated site dates back to 25 A.D.
• Indian culture: Explore a recreated village, ball courts and astronomical observatory where Igheri and Taino tribes once lived and played.
• Plaza Las Delicias: Sightsee around the center of Ponce, viewing flower gardens, fountains, cathedrals and other historical city monuments.
