Witness two disparate but equally compelling versions of Malaysian culture and beauty with a visit to its largest Chinese Buddhist temple and a trip to the top of one of the highest mountains in Penang to explore the hilltop town and take in fantastic views of George Town below.

• Begin your journey with a drive to peaks of Penang Hill, then board a funicular train that takes you to the top, more than 2,500 feet above sea level.
• Spend time wandering the hilltop town, once a popular refuge for expatriates and boasting colonial mansions reminiscent of an old English Village complemented by expansive vistas of George Town below.
• Take the funicular back down the hill, then set out to Kek Lok Si Temple, better known as Temple of the Ten Thousand Buddhas, Malaysia's largest Chinese-Buddhist temple complex, featuring a 291-foot pagoda, Buddha sculptures, and the Guan Yin bronze statue honoring the goddess of mercy.
• See the Pond of Longevity, where devotees release tortoises to earn blessings in an interesting structure that incorporates Chinese, Thai, and Burmese architecture.
