Explore the spiritual heritage, notable sights and flavorful cuisine of Cuba on a 6.5-hour trip that includes El Cobre's holy cathedral, a sightseeing drive around Santiago, plus lunch in a local restaurant and free time. Hop in a bus bound for El Cobre, an old copper mining town and home to the sacred shrine of the Virgin of Charity. Admire the triple domes of Cuba's most famous church, and then enter its chapel to see the golden Virgin statue. Hear the legend of two fishermen in the Bay of Nipe who encountered the Virgin and inspired the naming of this pilgrimage site. Back in Santiago you'll explore the Vista Alegre neighborhood and enjoy a steel band performance from a local community collective. Learn about San Juan Hill's military ties before driving through Plaza de la Revolucion, viewing the huge statue of military hero Antonio Maceo. Then relax in a neighborhood eatery, where you'll be served a selection of Cuban dishes including some typical Cuban delights. A bit of free time in the historical center lets you shop as you wish before heading back to port.
