How to Get the Perfect Vacation Look

Expert tips on how to get that “I woke up like this” look on vacay.

Vacation means taking a break from all those day-to-day routines — and that can include your morning beauty rituals. But just because you’re getting away from it all doesn’t mean you don’t want to look totally amazing while you’re doing it (think of the vacation photos!).

The good news is, you can let your makeup take a vacation and still look flawless by packing just a few key items in your carry-on. Beauty and style blogger Jeannine Morris of Beauty Sweet Spot suggests these three essentials to get that effortlessly beautiful look on your next vacation:

1. Waterproof mascara. “It makes all the difference by opening up and defining your eyes,” she says. Plus, it’s easy to swipe on right before you walk out the door. (Try Lancome Definicils, available on-board Royal Caribbean!).

2. Tinted moisturizer with SPF. “The slight hint of color will even out your skin tone just enough” for that “no-makeup” look. (Try Revision SPF 45)

3. Tinted lip balm with SPF. “Keep your lips healthy while you’re at it!” says Morris. It’s also the perfect way to add a pop of color. (Try Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15)

And if you’re planning on hitting up a rough-and-tumble adventure while you’re out there, like an off-road safari or a volcano hike, consider using a makeup setting spray as a finisher. “It’ll make your look water- and sweat-proof,” says Morris.

You can keep this whole “I’m on vacation and I look fantastic!” thing going into the evening. Morris says to master the top-knot for a quick day-to-night look: “It keeps you cool by the pool but is chic enough for dinner.” And if you’re not a fan of dry shampoo yet, Morris suggests that you become its BFF, stat. This little miracle absorbs grease, tames flyaways and makes all-day-in-the-sun strands look refreshed.

Beauty right onboard

Forget something? Find it onboard. Royal Caribbean’s newest ship, Quantum of the Seas, has a first-at-sea Kiehl’s boutique. Fans rave about Kiehl’s skin products, known for getting you that radiant glow. Other beauty brands available onboard Royal Caribbean ships include Chanel, Dior, Lancome, and OPI.

But then again, if you decide to go totally make-up free, embrace it. Says Morris: “You’re on vacation to breathe and relax. Going makeup free allows your skin to breathe, too!”
