You may be familiar with some of Royal Caribbean’s 24 different cruise ships, but the different cruise classes can take a bit more time to grasp. Not to worry; we’ve featured a quick breakdown of all seven classes of ships to help you find which one matches your ideal vacation style.
Featuring the three largest cruise ships in the world, Oasis of the Seas, Allure of the Seas, Harmony of the Seas, and soon, Symphony of the Seas, the Oasis class is like its own escape at sea, offering incredible experiences and plenty to taste, try and explore.
Who Will Love It: Everyone—from friends to couples to families. The best things about these grand ships are their expansive options of things to do, from zip lines, rock climbing and simulated surfing to nightlife, premier restaurants and relaxing evening strolls.
What You’ll Get: There’s so much to explore within the seven distinct neighborhoods on board, like the lush Central Park with 12,000 living plants; the Royal Promenade, which features upscale shopping and dining; and the Boardwalk, a perfect area for a relaxing walk, ride on the carousel, or a high-diving show at the AquaTheater. Such a large ship had to have some exciting “shortcuts”: zip lines cross the main courtyard overlooking Central Park. These ships also can introduce you to the FlowRider, a 40-foot surf simulator that lets you catch a wave while still on board, as well as an ice-skating rink. On Harmony, you’ll also find the Ultimate Abyss, the tallest slide at sea, taking you down 10 stories of a thrilling, twisting, illuminated tunnel.
Beyond that (and The Perfect Storm trio of waterslides on board Harmony, of course), dining options range from handmade pasta like Tagliatelle Bolognese from renowned chef Jamie Oliver at Jamie’s Italian, to Sabor, a taqueria and tequila bar. There’s also Izumi, which serves expertly prepared sushi, and Chops Grille, an American steakhouse. Entertainment isn’t lacking in the Oasis-class ships, either: they also offer Broadway shows like “Grease” and “CATS” onboard Harmony and Oasis, as well as jazz clubs, karaoke bars, and even comedy clubs.
Where It Goes: All Oasis-class ships travel to the Caribbean.
You don’t need to understand quantum physics to remember this ship class—just know that plenty of science went into the features that define these ships: Quantum of the Seas, Ovation of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas.
Who Will Love It: Adventurers and adrenaline junkies of all stripes, as well as the tech and food lovers in every family.
What You’ll Get: Thrill-seekers won’t need to leave the ship for their fill of action—they can head right for the first-ever skydiving simulator at sea, bumper cars onboard, trapeze school, and the same FlowRider featured on Oasis class. There’s also the North Star, an all-glass observation capsule that takes you 300 feet in the air for breathtaking 360-degree views.
If that’s not sci-fi enough, robotic bartenders can mix your cocktails with laser precision, and at Wonderland, one of many specialty restaurants on board, you’ll find whimsical cuisine and craft cocktails served in below-zero glasses chilled in liquid nitrogen. At the club Two70°, you’ll get high-tech nightlife with aerial entertainment and an ice bar—next to 270-degree ocean views.
Where It Goes: Anthem of the Seas will take you to the Caribbean and the Bahamas, Bermuda, New England and Canada—a top travel destination for 2017. Quantum of the Seas sails from Shanghai and heads to other Asian ports in China and Japan, while Ovation of the Seas travels around Asia, the South Pacific, and Australia and New Zealand.
Whether you’re headed for a Caribbean vacation or traveling across the Atlantic, Freedom class has plenty to keep everyone entertained on Freedom of the Seas, Independence of the Seas and Liberty of the Seas.
Who Will Love It: Families that especially love pool time.
What You’ll Get: Ten pools and whirlpools, and on Liberty, Splashaway Bay Aqua Park and the new Tidal Wave waterslide for adults. There’s also the DreamWorks experience, where kids can meet their favorite characters, like Shrek and the penguins from Madagascar, and catch 3D movies—perfect for a family night out under the stars.
Where It Goes: Both Freedom of the Seas and Independence of the Seas travel to the Caribbean, in Europe, and make transatlantic journeys. Sister ship Liberty of the Seas heads to the Caribbean.
If you’re trekking around the world, there’s a good chance you’ll do it on board one of five different Voyager-class ships: Voyager of the Seas, Mariner of the Seas, Navigator of the Seas, the newly revitalized Adventure of the Seas and Explorer of the Seas.
Who Will Love It: Sports enthusiasts…and anyone who would hit the club as readily as the gym.
What You’ll Get: With a full-sized basketball and volleyball court, as well as a rock-climbing wall that shoots up 200 feet above the sea, there’s no shortage of athletic action onboard any ship. If you prefer nightlife, ships on this class are packed with at least 12 different bars and clubs (and as many as 17). Better yet, many are laid out along the Royal Promenade, which is a destination in itself, and regularly hosts parades and dance parties.
Where It Goes: Across the world: from Australia to Alaska, the South Pacific via transpacific journeys and Asia, the Pacific Northwest, and of course, the Caribbean.
With Radiance-class ships, even when you’re indoors it seems like you’re outdoors: ships are lined with acres of glass for amazing views of the sea, sunsets and your destination ports.
Who Will Love It: Experienced photographers and amateur shutterbugs, whether shooting for Instagram or a frame.
What You’ll Get: There’s more to see besides the views—though with the ships having hundreds of prime lookouts it may be tough to ignore them. Also plan to visit enormous outdoor movie screens, Broadway-style entertainment in a three-story theater, as well Casino Royale, a 6,459-square-foot, Vegas-style casino, and plenty of bars, clubs and lounges.
Where It Goes: Our four Radiance-class ships—the recently revitalized Jewel of the Seas, Brilliance of the Seas, Serenade of the Seas and Radiance of the Seas—sail to the Caribbean, in Europe, across the pacific, Hawaii, Australia, Canada and New England, and even make repositioning cruises that can take you to Egypt, Rome or Barcelona.
Having “vision” is important, and some of us just have a better eye for the finer things in life. The four Vision-class ships—Enchantment of the Seas, Grandeur of the Seas, Vision of the Seas and Rhapsody of the Seas—are our smaller-sized global explorers, ready to take you to any corner in style and with every comfort to boot.
Who Will Love It: Travelers looking to kick back in class while traveling the world.
What You’ll Get: The popular Vitality Spa, an outdoor poolside movie screen, three pools—including the adults-only Solarium—and six different whirlpools. After a day spent lounging, there’s plenty of nighttime entertainment, like Broadway-style shows in the main theater, blackjack at Casino Royale, and eight different bars and lounges, including the classic Champagne Lounge and Latin-themed Boleros.
Where It Goes: Anywhere you’d want to see, from the Caribbean to Canada, Europe, across the Atlantic, throughout the South Pacific, and to Asia and Australia.
