Q

What if I need medical care onboard? Can I use my health insurance onboard? How can I be reimbursed of my onboard medical expenses?

A

Should you need to receive medical attention onboard, we offer a medical facility with doctors and nurses to care for you. While we do not accept land-based health insurance plans onboard; you may be eligible to submit a claim with your health insurance provider. Please check with your individual plan for what is covered.

If you purchased travel insurance or used a credit card to purchase your cruise that offers travel insurance, you may have another avenue to submit your claim for reimbursement.

Travel Protection Plan

If your individual insurance plan covers your medical expenses onboard, check their requirements. Typically, you would need your medical records, the medical service bill, and a Tax ID number, which you will find on the medical services bill.

NPI Number

An NPI, or National Provider Identification, is a US requirement. At the Royal Caribbean Group, we globally source our doctors and nurses to provide worldclass care and this number is not a requirement to practice medicine. In lieu of this number and at their discretion, many insurance companies accept our Tax ID number which is on your medical services bill.

Medical Records

Our goal is to provide a copy onboard. If you did not receive a copy after your treatment, just tell your doctor or nurse that you would like them prior to disembarking the vessel. Should you need to request a copy once on land, our goal is to send them within 10-14 business days. Please request to have them sent via fax, encrypted email*, or post mail by emailing MedicalRecords@rccl.com.

*An encrypted email is an authentication process that prevents messages from being read by an unintended or unauthorized individual. This is to ensure that your private health information stays private!

Please note: The medical records department is only able to procure medical records. They cannot change, alter, or remove any diagnosis codes or procedure codes (CPT). The medical records department is also not responsible for reimbursements or refunds.
