Mexico

With decades of history in Mexico, Royal Caribbean is deeply invested in Mahahual, Mexico — as a tourism driver, environmental steward, and community partner. From operating the Costa Maya cruise port to reimagining the local community center, Mahahual K'iin, here's how we show up for this community:

Tourism & Jobs

Mahahual is one of the largest destination ports in the world. As operator of the Costa Maya cruise port, Royal Caribbean welcomes over 550 ships per year to Mahahual, driving tourism and local economic opportunity for the community.

Protecting the Coast

Royal Caribbean partnered with the Mexican Navy, local leaders, and the state of Quintana Roo to launch a multi-year sargassum management program — removing over 500 tons from Mahahual beaches.

Inspiring the Next Generation

Through the Royal Voyagers Program, nearly 700 students from Mahahual's public and private schools came aboard Royal Caribbean ships for hands-on learning in maritime careers, ship operations, and sustainability — developed in partnership with the state of Quintana Roo and Mexico's Ministry of Education.

The Bahamas

Royal Caribbean has called The Bahamas home for decades — investing in sustainable agriculture, local entrepreneurship, and maritime careers for the communities we visit.

Supporting Local Entrepreneurs

At Perfect Day CocoCay, 100+ local vendors sell their crafts at an authentic Bahamian straw market, with free customer service training and hospitality courses offered to help small businesses thrive.

Fighting Food Insecurity

Since 2022, we've partnered with the Agricultural Development Organization to promote sustainable farming across the islands — this year helping establish the Centerville Community Farm in Nassau, with a portion of every harvest donated to local pantries and households in need.

Building Maritime Careers

We partner with the LJM Maritime Academy to provide scholarships to Bahamian students, training local talent to take charge of their maritime industry — with many going on to tour Royal Caribbean Group ships through the Bahamas Maritime Cadet Corps.

Haiti

Royal Caribbean has been a committed neighbor to Haiti for over 15 years — building schools, supporting livelihoods, and investing in the long-term prosperity of the communities near Labadee.

Educating Generations

L'Ecole Nouvelle Royal Caribbean has taught over 4,600 students and awarded 700+ secondary school scholarships since opening in response to Haiti's 2010 earthquake — covering all educational expenses including transportation, books, uniforms, and meals.

Supporting Local Artisans

Our Labadee market supports more than 400 local artisans from surrounding communities, providing them a platform to sell handcrafted artwork and souvenirs while offering financial workshops to strengthen community resilience.

Investing in the Future

The Labadee Youth Soccer & Sports Hub is located on property behind our school in Haiti. The field is designed to provide a safe and inclusive space for school children and the broader community. The facility will operate as a private space with controlled public access.

Investing in Communities Around the World

From the shores of Vanuatu to the cliffs of Santorini, we are committed to ensuring our destinations thrive long after guests sail away — investing in local people, infrastructure, and the environment for generations to come.

Santorini

At Royal Beach Club℠ Santorini, Royal Caribbean® maintains public beach access and enhances resident safety through improvements to shared pathways. Vanuatu

We are committed to building Royal Beach Club℠ Lelepa responsibly — working with local leaders, organizations, and residents of Vanuatu to create lasting opportunities through education, job training, infrastructure, and cultural preservation.

Community Impact FAQs

Royal Caribbean Group is committed to delivering the best vacations responsibly, and that commitment extends to the communities we visit and call home. Through our SEA the Future framework, we work to energize communities by supporting local economies, celebrating culture, investing in education and workforce development, and partnering on projects that help destinations remain vibrant and resilient for generations to come.

SEA the Future is Royal Caribbean Group’s commitment to helping protect the ocean, support the communities we visit and innovate for a more sustainable future of travel. The initiative focuses on three key areas: sustaining the planet, energizing communities and accelerating innovation. In everyday terms, that means finding smarter ways to reduce our environmental impact, support local cultures and economies, and design vacations with the future in mind.

The Royal Caribbean Group Community Impact Report shares how we are working to make a positive difference in the places we visit. It highlights our community partnerships, local economic programs, conservation efforts and initiatives that support education, culture and responsible tourism. The report is one way we show our progress and share the stories of the people and places behind our vacations.

We support a range of programs that help protect the ocean and care for the destinations we visit. These include efforts to reduce waste, recycle and repurpose materials in ports, support ocean research and help protect marine life such as sea turtles. We also work with local partners, ports and organizations to advance practical solutions that support healthier communities and ecosystems.

Yes. Wherever possible, Royal Caribbean Group looks for ways to support local jobs and economic opportunity in the destinations we visit. That can include working with local businesses, suppliers, artists, tour operators and community partners, as well as supporting training and entrepreneurship programs. Our goal is to help tourism create meaningful benefits for local people and communities.

Public beach access is always fully preserved in our destinations. Beyond that, we are committed to working with local authorities to create dedicated access points that make beaches easier and safer for local residents to reach — in full compliance with Mexican law and in the spirit of responsible, community-centered tourism.
