Q

What items are prohibited on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship?

A

Here are the most common items we get asked about. Keep in mind – the ship’s security team may prohibit or confiscate any item they determine is not permissible onboard.

DRINKS

  • Each guest of drinking age may bring on one sealed, standard size (750ml) bottle of wine or champagne. Any other type of alcohol – liquor, beer, seltzer, etc. – may not be brought onboard. See beverage policy FAQ.
  • You may carry on non-alcoholic drinks like water, soda or energy drinks – up to 12 standard size cans or bottles (up to 17 oz) per room.
  • Milk and distilled water for infants, medical or dietary needs is permitted.
  • There is complimentary coffee, tea, juice, lemonade, and water at the ship’s cafes and restaurants.

SNACKS

  • You can bring on a sensible amount of your favorite pre-packaged sealed snacks. Keep in mind there are lots of complimentary grab and go items and food all around the ship.

HAIR TOOLS

  • Hair curling irons, straighteners and hair dryers are permitted. Each room has a hair dryer available.

CLOTHING IRONS, STEAMERS, & OTHER SMALL APPLIANCES

  • Irons and steamers are not allowed. Any appliance that produces steam is not allowed.
  • Tea kettles, rice cookers, or other small appliances are not allowed.
  • Small personal fans are permitted.

LUGGAGE SIZE

  • Cruise ships do not have strict luggage requirements like airplanes – guests are permitted a reasonable amount of luggage. Luggage can be checked at the curb for delivery to your room or carried on the ship. Larger suitcases that do not fit through a standard bag x-ray machine will need to be manually checked. See luggage policy FAQ.

PETS

  • Pets are not allowed onboard. Only Service Animals are accepted. Please see service Animal FAQ for more details about our service animal policies.
  • Guests traveling with a Service Animal should contact Accessible Shore Excursions to review guidelines and arrange special accommodations on tours.

TOILETRY SIZE

  • Toiletries of any size are permitted (full size shampoo and conditioner, etc.). Your room has shampoo, body wash, and hand soap. Suites have elevated toiletries.

BABY THINGS

  • You can bring aboard baby bathing basins and strollers. They must be stored inside your room, not in the hall.
  • You can bring portable cribs, playpens or pack n’ plays, or you can call us to request one be placed in your room.
  • Baby bottle cleaners, sanitizers, and warmers are handled case-by-case by the Access team (contact Special_needs@rccl.com to have your item reviewed).
  • Baby monitors are not allowed.

SPORTING GOODS

  • You can bring your own sports equipment to use at sports courts and venues onboard (pickleball paddles, ice skates, etc.) or to take ashore. Sports equipment cannot be used in non-sporting areas of the ship.
  • Recreational diving knives must be held by the security team and checked out for dive trips.

SMART GLASSES

  • There are limits to where smart glasses can be worn onboard. Smart glasses cannot be worn in the casino, spa service areas, restrooms, locker rooms, medical facilities, security screening locations, youth facilities, during back-of-house tours, in crew areas, or anywhere there is a reasonable expectation of guest and crew privacy.
  • Smart glasses users who are seen violating this policy will have the glasses confiscated.

OTHER ITEMS THAT ARE NOT ALLOWED

  • Illegal drugs and illegal substances – including marijuana, even if you have a medical license
  • Alcohol (except for the wine and champagne allowance noted above)
  • Weapons, firearms, ammunition, explosives, incendiaries (including replicas and gun parts)
  • Fireworks and sparklers
  • Flammable items or items with open flames or steam

  • Tools (hardware tools, including screwdrivers)
  • Martial arts and self-defense items
  • Disabling chemicals including mace and pepper spray
  • Electrical extension cords, power strips, and multi-plug outlets. Device chargers are allowed but must be stamped with US/Europe recognized Conformance Marking.

  • Cybersecurity and deliberate electronic crime equipment
  • Recreational vehicles (motorcycles, mopeds, ATVs, etc.)
