Before the vows are exchanged, celebrate the soon-to-be-bride or groom with the send-off of their dreams. An epic party is made all the more memorable with a perfectly fitting bachelorette or bachelor party theme. Read on for ideas to inspire the ultimate weekend, and why friendship might be best celebrated at sea.
Coordinating a group trip for a bachelor or bachelorette party can quickly turn into a logistical headache, from splitting costs and booking reservations to accommodating different budgets, diets and energy levels. A cruise streamlines all of that. Lodging, dining, entertainment and transportation can be bundled into a single booking. Many on-board amenities are already included, creating a largely payment-free experience that feels similar to an all-inclusive resort. If guests want extras like spa treatments, drink packages or excursions, they can pay for those individually.
Cruises also take the pressure off the host to entertain everyone nonstop. With multiple nightlife venues, daytime lounge areas and other entertainment options conveniently in one place, the group can split up and reconvene easily without anyone feeling left out. Dining flexibility is another major plus: ships typically offer a wide range of cuisines, making it easy to satisfy everyone.
A great bachelor or bachelorette party theme can be inspired by multiple factors: the destination, a shared obsession, an inside joke, a favorite era. Leaning into a theme builds anticipation before the trip even begins, giving the group an exciting way to bond in the lead-up to the celebration. And once the weekend kicks off, coordinated looks make the group instantly recognizable (and throw a “bride” or “groom” sash on the betrothed to really announce the occasion). Plus, a theme makes for great photos to look back on once the party’s over. My bachelorette party, for example, was “Corpse Bride” themed in New Orleans over Halloween and it was perfect.
A cruise opens up the imagination to numerous theme opportunities. Here are some to consider.
First, land on a theme that accounts for varying comfort levels and budgets. Consider the guest of honor’s personality, the destination and the group dynamic. And remember that not everyone has the means or desire to splurge on new ensembles.
Then, find your most organized friend, the one who loves being in charge of things, and task them with managing the theme. After you’ve designated one or two people to take the lead on planning (and this could always be yourself, of course), make sure to share guidance early with everyone in the group. You might want to create an easily shareable mood board, such as a Pinterest page, to align expectations and get everyone excited about the theme.
