As senior vice president and chief operating officer for Royal Caribbean International’s operations in China, Bert Hernandez oversees the global cruise line’s business strategies in the major booming cruise market.
A major focus for the cruise line, China has become one of its largest markets outside of the United States in the last five years. Royal Caribbean has made significant investments to expand its business in the region and continue leading as the cruise company with the most prevalent market presence and best reputation. Hernandez’s key role involves the management and implementation of the company’s China-specific strategies that are designed to drive future growth as the cruise brand of choice in the region.
Hernandez joined Royal Caribbean in 2004, and most recently served as COO of sister cruise line Azamara Club Cruises and vice president of Revenue Management for Celebrity Cruises prior to returning to Royal Caribbean International. Bringing a wealth of experience with him to China, his varied senior positions in the company include experience in several business units such as corporate strategy, financial planning and itinerary planning.
The cruise line executive received his Master of Business Administration from the Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina, following a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Davidson College in North Carolina.
He currently resides in Shanghai, China with his wife and two daughters.
