Kick off the morning with a café con leche in the historic Cuban-Spanish neighborhood of Ybor City. Then take the TECO Line Streetcar into the Channel District where you can explore the Florida Aquarium or the SS American Victory, a World War II era ship turned museum.

Stroll along the Tampa Riverwalk and see where it leads you. You might explore interactive exhibits at the Tampa Bay History Center, or go stand-up paddleboarding from the Sail Pavilion. Tampa Museum of Art’s collections range from ancient to modern— and the Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park is home to splash fountains, a playground and skyline views.

Local Cuisine

Tampa’s food scene stems from a fusion of Cuban, Spanish, Italian and Floribbean influences. Local raw bars serve up fresh shrimp, oysters, scallops and grouper from the Gulf of Mexico. Head to the Sandy Bay-West End Marine Reserve for some of the best diving in the world. Encompassing 8 miles of coastline, the reserve is home to 38 unique dive sites, all within a 15-minute boat ride from the coast.

LOCAL CUISINE

If you like seafood, get ready to feast like royalty in Roatán. Try the conch soup or the tapado— a hearty seafood stew made with plantains and tropical root vegetables. Rum is the go-to spirit, but Honduran beers like Port Royal and Salva Vida are local favorites.

Snorkel or dive the Great Blue Hole. About 1000 feet wide and nearly 400 feet deep, this undersea sinkhole is visible from space. The revered dive site is part of the Belize Barrier Reef, a protected underwater wonderland that spans 185 miles of the coastline.

Cool off with a michelada, made with beer and freshly squeezed lime juice over ice in a salt-rimmed glass. Or keep it traditional with Mexico’s signature spirit, tequila.
