Celebrate, Good Times, Come On a Cruise!

Celebration cruises are a perfect way to put the spotlight on high points in life. Walk in graduation and then walk into the best ready-made celebration at sea. Book a graduation-themed bond with the buds or savor solo sessions with the squad before everyone heads off to their next exciting step in life. Cruises come in every length and fit every budget — from bucket list blowouts to short and oh-so-sweet weekend getaways, so no one gets left out of the party.

If family wants in on the action, cruises are the perfect solution to balance fun with friends and quality time with the ones who supported the journey from the beginning. With a cruise, you can do as little or as much as you like. Everyone can spread out to find their fun and regroup over dinner or a show to share the experience and make memories.

A+ Activities for Celebrating Grads

Forget the books and lectures — AP now stands for Absolute Perfection. You’ve done the grind, now enjoy the tropical fruits of your labor.

Release the stress of your final exams with a breezy beachside massage. If speed fits your need, don’t pass or fail to hit the record-breaking 135-foot Daredevil’s Peak waterslide for a pulse-pounding party kick off. Head over to the swim-up bar at Oasis Lagoon®, the largest freshwater pool in the Caribbean, because the only thing you need to cram now is the lime in the coconut!

Family Fun for Families Along for the Ride

On a graduation cruise, the seniors might rule, but younger siblings and families will drool over the array of complimentary fun waiting at Perfect Day CocoCay. Captain Jill’s Galleon is a pirate ship-themed splash zone with playground favorite slides and water cannons. Splashaway Bay℠ is an included waterpark with drench buckets, slides, fountains and sprayers. You can find complimentary food at several areas, including by the massive Oasis Lagoon with a freshwater shallow entry area perfect for kids and pint-sized party music fans.

Extra Credit Splurges to Splash Out On

Loads of free-for-all fun greets guests at Perfect Day at CocoCay, but a few exclusive experiences are worth an upcharge splurge for special occasion celebrators.

Thrill Waterpark® sports 14 slides, the region’s largest wave pool, and complimentary poolside bites at the Snack Shack. Just do your homework and book ahead, as the popular hot spot to cool down can sell out.

If you want to leave the kid-life behind, a fab first step into being a grownup is heading to Hideaway Beach℠, an adult-only beach with in-water hammocks, elevated included food, heated infinity pool, daybeds and a DJ-led party vibe. Book early for bargains or if VIP cabanas (accommodating six, some with private pools) are your jam.

Add-on adrenaline activities, such as the Up, Up & Away helium balloon or the 1,600ft zip line adventure (bring closed-toe shoes), carry a surcharge. However, your internet package and drinks package from the ship work on the island.

Slip into swaying palms, DJ beach beats, blenders on high, toes-in-sand perfection.

Short Getaways with Big Impact

When the celebratory spirit is willing, but the schedule is tight, short getaways can be the key to marking a big occasion like a graduation. Long weekends make for easy work workarounds when your group is trying to synchronize their schedules. Pair with holidays to make the most of PTO days.

If budget is a bigger issue than timing, choose shorter mid-week sails for sales and reduced rates. Lower passenger numbers also make it easier to book multiple staterooms within close proximity.

Plan ahead to maximize your time on board by locking in specialty culinary experiences, dinner reservations and entertainment in advance.  Short cruise destinations on Royal Caribbean are long on good times, with 2-5 day cruises sailing to The Bahamas, Mexico, Dominican Republic and Perfect Day CocoCay.

Oh, the Places You’ll Go — Caribbean Islands by Vibe

As the only cruise line voted Best Overall for 23 years running by Travel Weekly readers, Royal Caribbean knows its islands. The Caribbean is no cookie-cutter cruise destination. Sunny soft sands and swaying palms might adorn all the islands, but they are vastly varied. Study up on the energy and vet your vibe when choosing the perfect port paradise to celebrate your graduate

These itineraries ignite a scholar’s imagination.

The Bahamas: Perfect Day at CocoCay and Royal Beach Club℠ Paradise Island are Bahamian highlights, but adventure travelers love shark diving, sport fishing, jet skis and Atlantis Paradise Island. Taste the local life at Arawak Cay Fish Fry.
Dominican Republic: Culture comes in many forms — music, spice, drinks, fashion, food, language, indigenous history, dance — and DR has it all, along with some great beaches and islands to explore its natural beauty.
ABC’s: Let’s go, beaches! Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao are ringed by endless world-class options for sugar-soft sand and crystal-clear aqua seas to float and forget studying anything other than the colorful fish cavorting below your snorkel mask.
Roatan, Belize, Costa Maya Cenotes and Cozumel: Scuba aficionados know that these ports — enjoyed on a Western Caribbean itinerary — sit on the world’s top diving destination list. A bonus for bubblers is that traveling by ship allows daily dives not possible when flying between islands. Try out a Discover Scuba tour!
Mexican Riviera: Some say the west is the best when it comes to chill energy with cultural, historical and culinary elements for max Mexico memories. Perfect speed excursions made for multi-gen families in laidback locales to recharge their grads.

Royal Treatment for Grads and Company

Royal Caribbean is a cruise line that specializes in wow-worthy entertainment for all ages, making it a top choice for any celebration cruise. Graduates in particular love the ships for their tech-forward elements and amped up action in the waterparks, live music venues and over-18 venues, letting them enjoy a taste of the next stage with friends and family. Plenty of places around the decked-out decks focus on adult-only fun for bonding with besties and friend groups settling in for a fab day at sea. Excellent kids clubs engage the 3-17-year-olds, making Royal Caribbean cruise vacations a sweet option for multi-generation families joining together to honor their grad’s hard work.

Planning Tips for Celebration Cruises: Some Minor Considerations

Everyone has either been a graduate or knows one in their life and understands the hard work and effort involved in the achievement. Cruise ships are friendly places where fellow guests love to celebrate special occasions. Bust out those matching t-shirts featuring the embarrassing kindergarten pic of your grad and lean into the fun.

Ships offer special occasion decor packages for purchase, but many passengers take advantage of the fact that most doors, walls and ceilings of ship staterooms are metal and bring magnetic decorations of their own. (Be mindful of language or inappropriate images; your steward will share if items you brought fall into any fire or safety concerns.)

You can’t pick your neighbors, but you can pick your neighborhood. Peruse the options and avoid family-centered, waterpark-facing rooms if you plan to celebrate into the wee hours and sleep in. Choosing a stateroom an elevator ride away from your intended pool or spa hang adds a welcome touch of convenience.

Budget-minded friend groups can book adjoining balconies or pick interior staterooms and designate one common area to lounge. Always price out two per room as well as four-friend shares, as the fares might be close enough to enjoy the extra space and bathroom.

Planning Tips and Must-Knows

All guests sailing from North America or the Caribbean follow the 21+ drinking age while on board the ship or on Royal Caribbean private islands and beach clubs, even if the ports allow 18+ to legally drink. South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand origination ports have an 18+ drinking age limit. Book packages before boarding for best prices.

All guests in a stateroom of legal age must share a common drink package, which is notable for mixed-budget friend groups when deciding who should share space. Sharing is strictly prohibited, as is underaged drinking in staterooms. One sealed bottle of bubbly or wine per legal drinking age guest is allowed on embarkation to enjoy in the stateroom.

Be mindful when booking friend group trips. All guests must have one passenger 21+ in their stateroom, with the only exception being underaged married couples and active duty American or Canadian military, with proof of marriage or duty status. The age limit is also waived for underaged passengers sailing in adjoining staterooms with their parents or guardians.

Check for current underage passenger policies before booking, as paperwork such as notarized guardian consent might be required for minors to sail or enjoy ports.
